Lorain County Community College - Entrepreneurship Innovation Center (EIC) — Elyria, Ohio

LCCC-EIC Building

Lorain County Community College’s Entrepreneurship Innovation Center (EIC) is the first new construction building in Lorain County to be LEED® certified. KS Associates was selected by the architect to provide site improvement plans and worked closely with the project team to maximize LEED® credit opportunities.

The EIC building earned a silver rating from the U. S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The silver rating means the EIC building met the required points to be LEED® certified in six categories: sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, and innovation and design process.

KS Associates designed the EIC site with sustainability in mind. The design addressed issues including erosion and sedimentation control, minimal disturbance to adjacent wetlands, access to alternative transportation, and stormwater management. The design also incorporated an existing ditch that was used as a bioswale to naturally remove silt and pollution from surface runoff water and provide the required water quality volumes.

This is the first newly constructed building in Lorain County to be LEED certified.
