Senior Outreach Services at Emmanuel Square — Cleveland, Ohio

Senior Outreach Center

Architects Schmidt Copeland Parker Stevens, on behalf of Fairfax Renaissance Development Corporation (FRDC), selected KS Associates to provide civil engineering and site design services this project. The project involved renovating the former Langston Hughes Library at East 79th Street and Quincy Avenue for the new headquarters of Senior Outreach Services at Emmanuel Square, a nonprofit, human services organization. The project included a 13,000-square-foot addition to house a commercial kitchen and the Cleveland Clinic’s Community Health Resource Clinic.

KS Associates assisted the architectural team in obtaining LEED Credits. The project is on track to become LEED certified at the Silver level.

LEED components included designing a bio-swale to remove silt and pollution from surface runoff water, and incorporating the bio-swale into the Stormwater Management system.

The project returns a historically significant neighborhood gem to productive use — the library was built in 1914 and is one of 1,679 libraries built by Andrew Carnegie.
