Former Erie and B&O Railroad Properties — Akron METRO Regional Transit Authority

Akron Metro

KS Associates’ Survey Group performed two major boundary surveys for two railroad lines purchased by Akron METRO Regional Transit Authority. METRO purchased the right-of-way with the intent of rehabilitating the line to operate excursion trains and eventually provide commuter rail service.

Former Erie Line
KS Associates performed boundary surveys for two separate segments of track. The Akron Secondary lies between Akron and Hudson, Ohio. The Freedom Secondary begins at Front Street in downtown Akron and ends in Kent, Ohio. Approximately 30 miles of combined railroad right-of-way were surveyed. Two survey crews worked simultaneously and nearly 250 right-of-way markers were set in completing the survey.

Former B&O Line
KS Associates performed a boundary survey of approximately 25 miles of railroad right-of-way to transfer the right-of-way purchased from CSX and the Wheeling and Lake Erie railroads. The segment of railroad begins near Howard Street in Akron and ends near Marion Street in downtown Canton. As many as three survey crews worked simultaneously performing the field survey. Nearly 600 right-of-way corners were set during the survey. Topographic sureys were also perfromed for grade crossings to assist with the complete rehabilitation of the line.
