Kent Dam Modification — Kent, Ohio

KS Associates provided topographic surveying and basemapping of approximately 2,000 linear feet of the Cuyahoga River for this dam modification and river improvement project. Surveying and mapping included features on both sides of the riverbank, river bottom elevations and details of the existing dam and Main Street Bridge.

Surveyors obtained river-bottom elevations by wading in shallow water or by boat (soundings) in deeper areas. Trees and elevated walkways along the western riverbank were also located. Work on the eastern riverbank required coordinating the field surveying with CSX Transportation. This included obtaining Right-of-Entry permits and obtaining flagging services to ensure the safety of surveyors.

KS surveyors made more than 4,200 measurements to locate features and obtain elevations to produce a topographic base map with one-foot contours.

Built in 1836, the Kent Dam is an integral part of the Kent Industrial District and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
