Elyria Catholic High School CAD Students Get First-Hand Look at Engineering
November 10 , 2006 - Approximately 15 students from Elyria Catholic High School (ECHS) got a real-world perspective on careers in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) yesterday. Juniors and Seniors enrolled in ECHS's CAD program took a class trip to KS Associates.
Students were given demonstrations on projects that are currently underway in the area. Mark B. Skellenger, P.E., vice president of KS Associates, welcomed students and introduced them to representatives of the firm's Survey Group, Transportation Group and Land Development Group. Students were able to see what it is really like working as a CAD technician on roadway and land development projects, and as a surveyor.
"Our goal is to shed light on the many facets of engineering and surveying professions. We want students to understand that their CAD training can be a foundation for career options that they may not have otherwise considered," said Skellenger. Ralph Jaworski, a teacher at ECHS for more than five years, accompanied the students. Jaworski has taught CAD classes for more than three years. This is the second time his class has toured an engineering firm.
