KS Associates Hosts Engineer-For-A-Day Program

StudentsFebruary 22, 2008 – KS Associates hosted two high school students as part of Engineer-For-A-Day, a job shadowing program sponsored by Cleveland State University's Fenn Academy. The program is designed to acquaint students with the engineering profession by having them spend a day on the job with a Professional Engineer (P.E.).

Cory Patek and Danna Torio, juniors at Normandy High School in Parma, received a first-hand look at the day-to-day responsibilities of civil engineers and surveyors. KS representatives gave students an overview of surveying instruments, AutoCAD software and plan drawings. Using current projects as examples, the students received a glimpse into the many facets of civil engineering and left with a better understanding of engineering career options.

"With the shallow labor market for experienced civil engineers, we realize the importance of attracting high school students to the engineering field," said Lynn S. Miggins, P.E., President of KS Associates. KS actively promotes engineering and surveying as professions through programs such as Engineer-For-A-Day, and through a scholarship partnership with the University of Akron.

About the Engineer-For-A-Day Program:
The Engineer-For-A-Day shadowing program is part of a national effort to increase the number of students seeking an engineering degree. It demonstrates to students the real-world application of math, science and technology, as well as the positive impact of engineering in today's world. This year's program drew 62 high school students from 20 high schools throughout Northeast Ohio. The program is held annually as part of National Engineer's Week.
