July 28, 2006 – KS Associates participated in a special project to raise funds for Genesis House, a women's home providing safety, food and shelter to victims of domestic violence. The project involved constructing an entire house in 2006 minutes, or the equivalent of three days' work, similar to the manner in which homes come together in the popular Extreme Makeover: Home Edition television show. Portions of the money generated from the sale of the home will be donated to Genesis House.
From July 25-27, 2006, building professionals built a home that would ordinarily take months to complete. They raced against the clock to construct a 1,400-square-foot ranch home, complete with three bedrooms, two baths and a basement. The home is located in the City of Lorain at 1822 Garden Avenue (just south of 18th street).
NCBIA-member design professionals, contractors and suppliers stepped up to donate time and materials for the project. KS Associates donated surveying services for the site plan preparation and construction staking. These services are necessary to properly position the new house to meet setback requirements, and to define the site grading.
The project exists thanks to the team effort of the NCBIA and the Lorain County Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC). According to Dave Linna, president of the NCBIA, "This is a great opportunity to demonstrate what the building community can do when we work together." Linna serves as co-chair of the 2006 Project House Committee, along with Chris S. Majzun Jr. of Majzun Construction Company.
