KS Associates Receives Notice to Proceed for Proposed
I-90, SR 57 Corridor Improvement Project
June 3, 2008 – KS Associates received a Notice to Proceed from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to design the proposed re-configuration of the I-90 interchange with SR 57 in Elyria. The purpose of the project is to improve safety and traffic flow in this heavily traveled and accident-prone corridor, improve connectivity for the community and businesses, and accommodate future needs of the corridor.
KS Associates' approach to the project was chosen from a pool of more than 20 candidates. Brian Stacy, an ODOT representative, said the design firm was chosen because, "They were just the best in the group." He was quoted in an article that appeared in the June 19 issue of The Morning Journal.
KS Associates will begin a two-year design process that will give ODOT a cost estimate to know what it will take to build the project. Services will include environmental analysis, surveying, preliminary engineering, detailed design and preparation of the final construction and right-of-way plans. Once the cost estimate is complete, ODOT will purchase the right of way area, which would continue into 2011. Construction is expected to begin in 2013, pending state funding.
