October 30 , 2006 – The Smart Growth Education Foundation held its second annual Smart Growth Community Excellence Awards program, recognizing 12 community and building industry leaders who are embracing Smart Growth Practices. The program was open to all builders, developers, communities and organizations in an 11-county region consisting of Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Huron, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, Stark and Summit Counties.

KS Associates sponsored the Smart-Growth-Community Excellence Award to recognize a community for creatively and responsibly planning for future growth. This year’s winner is the City of North Ridgeville, which was selected based on the Smart Growth principles outlined in its master plan.

According to City of North Ridgeville Mayor David Gillock, “We accept that growth and change in our community are inevitable. Managing and planning for that change, smartly, will result in the kind of community we want – one that will encourage new development while complementing whole neighborhoods, one that will have respect for the land and its natural systems, and one that will accommodate a variety of lifestyles.”
