January 31, 2010 – KS Associates survey crews made it back home safely after traveling more than 2,000 miles in two months to perform two out-of-state projects.
Their most recent assignment was performing surveying and mapping services for R. W. Armstrong, needed for an airfield repair project at Norfolk Chambers Field in Norfolk, Virginia. This is an American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) project, and included repairing aircraft parking aprons and taxiways, and installing a new taxiway.
In very short order, KS successfully mobilized a crew to the project site. KS’s technical experience with surveying active airfields, along with an understanding of security issues and airport operations, were assets to completing this project successfully.
In October, a survey crew flew to the big state of Texas to provide surveying services for the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi. Our crew completed topographic surveys and mapping for the repair of Runway 13L-31R and various taxiways. The work was needed as part of a design-build project, also led by R. W. Armstrong. The project included pavement repairs varying from full-depth pavement replacement to crack sealing.
R.W. Armstrong selected KS Associates based on past project performance and our ability to deploy crews quickly. "For the Virginia project, we were able to put surveyors on the ground in less than two weeks from initial discussions about the project. And we we were able to respond just as quickly for Corpus Christi," said Mark A. Yeager, P.S., director of Surveying Services.
