Shoreline Improvements at Painesville Township Park, Lake Metroparks, Painesville, Ohio

Painesville Township Pier

KS Associates provided engineering services to assist Lake Metroparks in implementing a series of improvements at Painesville Township Park. The project called for designing a new pier for public enjoyment, stabilizing the eroding hillside, and protecting the park shoreline.

KS designed the showpiece of the park, a new fishing pier. In December 2013, KS presented several design alternatives. The selected alternative is a 150-foot-long by 20-foot-wide steel crib pier connected to shore with a 50-foot-long by 10-foot-wide steel bridge. The crib pier is constructed with steel frames filled with stone and is anchored to the lakebed with piles. The crib serves as a stone reef, providing a fish habitat that will attract larger Lake Erie game fish. Construction was complete in September 2017, and the pier was officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony in October 2017.

KS also provided preliminary and final design of a new 800-foot-long armor stone revetment along the shoreline to replace a failing steel sheet pile retaining wall. The revetment protects the shoreline from erosion and stabilizes the hillside. Construction of the revetment was completed in July 2015.

KS provided 100% design drawings, specifications, a cost estimate, bidding phase services, and construction administration and inspection for the improvements. KS also prepared U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and Ohio Environmental Protection Agency permit applications for the pier and revetment.

Construction Cost: $2,428,700.
