LOR-57-19.42 SR 57 Corridor Improvement Project, ODOT District 3, Elyria, Ohio

SR57 Arial

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) selected KS Associates as the prime consultant for this corridor improvement project. The project extends north from I-80 / Ohio Turnpike to I-90 in the City of Elyria and Elyria Township, Lorain County, Ohio. This heavily traveled route experiences a high incidence of accidents. Travelers are confounded by the traffic pattern in this area, which requires drivers to cross SR-57 via the 49th Street Bridge.
The purpose of the project is to more safely and efficiently move traffic, to improve connectivity for residents and businesses, and to accommodate future needs of the corridor.

In July 2009, KS Associates completed a Preliminary Engineering Study, providing ODOT with a cost estimate, conceptual plans, maintenance of traffic plans, geotechnical investigation and environmental studies for the preferred alternative. Recommended improvements to the SR-57 corridor include widening SR-57 to three lanes in each direction, constructing two at-grade, signalized intersections at Midway Boulevard and Griswold Road, removing the 49th Street Bridge, and removing loop ramps at I-90 – replacing them with a full diamond interchange.

KS is managing five subconsultants for environmental and wetland services, lighting and drainage design, R/W acquisition, subsurface utility engineering and geotechnical services.

KS has completed the detailed design phase and continues to make progress with R/W acquisition services.
